II ANDORRA INTERNATIONAL SAXOPHONE COMPETITION

The Associació de Saxofonistes d'Andorra, organiser of the ANDORRA SAX FEST'15, announces the II Andorra International Saxophone Competition, to be held in Andorra la Vella from April 6th to 11th 2015, according to the present.

ELEGIBILITY AND REGISTRATION

The competition is open to all saxophonists of all nationalities born after April 11th 1985. Participation can be requested using the registration form available at the official website (www.andorrasaxfest.com). Participation requests must attach the following documents:

a) Photocopy of passport or official identity card.

b) Brief biography and artistic curriculum vitae.

c) Recent identity photo.

d) In case of minors, authorisation signed by parent or legal guardian.

There will be a maximum of 50 competitors. Registrations will be accepted by order of payment until February 20th 2015. The list of admitted competitors will be published on the official website by March 1st, 2015. The submission of the registration form implies unconditional acceptance of these regulations.

 

 

PROGRAMME

The official presentation and performance order draw will be held on April 6th 2015 at 9h am at Centre Cultural La Llacuna. Competitors must be present to receive their performance time and their absence will be considered a withdrawal from the competition. The competition will consist of the following rounds:

 

FIRST ROUND

It will take place on April 8th 2015, from 9h30 am onwards at the Centre de Congressos d'Andorra la Vella. The competitors must appear before the Competition Committee no later than 20 minutes prior to their scheduled performance. Each competitor will interpret two compulsory works. The overall duration of the programme must not exceed 10 minutes. The jury will ask to terminate performances that exceed the time limit. A maximum of 15 competitors will be chosen for the second round.

SECOUND ROUND

It will take place on April 10th 2015, from 9h30 am onwards at the Centre de Congressos d'Andorra la Vella. The competitors must appear before the Competition Committee no later than 20 minutes prior to their scheduled performance. Each competitor will interpret the compulsory work plus a solo saxophone work to be chosen among the following list. The overall duration of the programme must not exceed 20 minutes. The jury will ask to terminate performances that exceed the time limit. Compulsory Work:

A maximum of 6 competitors will be chosen for the final round. FINAL ROUND It will take place on April 11th 2015, from 5 pm onwards at the Centre de Congressos del Comú d'Andorra la Vella. Final Round competitors will be asked to interpret Jacques IBERT Concertino da Camera for Alto Saxophone and 11 instruments. Failure to be present at the assigned performance time will be considered a withdrawal from the competition. The decisions of the jury are final and will be announced at the end of each round. All the competition events will be open to the public.

 

JURY

The following jury members will adjudicate the competition: Vincent DAVID, Philippe BRAQUART, Mariano GARCÍA, Nacho GASCÓN and Christophe GRÈZES. During the first meeting, the members of the jury will examine the circumstances of abstention: any juror having a teaching relationship with a competitor must declare such relationship and will abstain from voting on the competitor’s performances. Deliberation of the jury will take place after each round. Competitors eliminated will be given a chance to discuss their results with members of the Jury. The jury reserves the right not to award all prizes. The decisions of the jury are final. 

 

ACCOMPANISTS

The competition committee will provide an accompanist for all the competitors in the First Round, without previous rehearsal. Competitors are recommended to bring their own accompanist for the Second Round. Otherwise, the competition committee will provide an accompanist on request. The fee for this service is €25,00 for each session of 30 minutes, with a maximum of 2 rehearsals for competitor. Accompanist requests must be specified after entering the Second Round. Rehearsals will be scheduled in order of receipt of requests and will take place on April 9th 2015, from 9 am to 8 pm.

 

MASTERCLASSES

The II ANDORRA INTERNATIONAL SAXOPHONE COMPETITION organisation committee offers 4-pack lessons, consisting of four 45' sessions conducted by 4 members of the competition jury* (Vincent DAVID, Philippe BRAQUART, Mariano GARCÍA and Nacho GASCÓN) and Quatour Morphing. Modalitées d’inscription: - Pack 4 Masterclasses, 45 minute lessons with each one of the jury* members, (April 6th/ 7th 2015). - One Masterclass. A 45 minute lesson to choose among the members of the Jury* (April 9th 2015). - The QUATUOR MORPHING will conduct 60-minute masterclasses for sax quartets (April 6th/7th/ 9th 2015). - Each member of the quartet will also impart individual 45 minute lessons (April 6th/7th/ 9th 2015). Les demandes de Masterclass seront organisés par ordre strict de réception des inscriptions.

 

REHEARSAL ROOMS

The Competition Committee will provide rehearsal rooms for all participants of ANDORRA SAXFEST'15, and especially for those competing in the II ANDORRA INTERNATIONAL SAXOPHONE COMPETITION. Rehearsal rooms will be have to be previously requested and will be assigned with a time limit.

 

PRIZES

The following prizes will be awarded:

– First prize: SELMER Alto Saxophone Series III Jubilé.

– Second prize: €1000 in products SELMER and VANDOREN from the MAFER MUSICA cataloge.

– Third prize: €700 in products BG FRANCK BICHON from the MUSICAL ANDORRÀ cataloge.

– Fourth prize: €100 in products from the EUROMUSICA and MAFER MUSICA cataloge.

– Fift prize: €100 in products from the EUROMUSICA and MAFER MUSICA cataloge.

– Sixth prize: €100 in products from the EUROMUSICA and MAFER MUSICA cataloge.

The 1st Prize will be awarded to only one competitor and cannot be divided. For the other awards, in the event of a tie, the prizes will be shared. In order to receive a prize awarded, participation in the final concert and award ceremony is obligatory.

 

SHEET MUSIC

Only legal sheet music may be used in the competition.

 

REGISTRATION FEES

Participants registered for the COMPETITION:

- Registration for the competition only: €80,00.

- Registration for both the competition (€80) and 4-pack Masterclasses with each one of the Jury* members (€160): €240,00 (April 6th/ 7th 2015).

- A Masterclass to choose among the members of the Jury*: 70,00€ (April 9th 2015).

- Rehearsal with accompanist (30 minutes): €25,00 – maximum of 2 sessions.

- QUATUOR MORPHING Masterclass: €100,00 for quartet, that is €25,00 per person (April 6th/7th/ 9th 2015).

- QUATUOR MORPHING Individual Masterclass Pack: One class with each on of the members of the quartet €120,00 (April 6th/7th/ 9th 2015).

- QUATUOR MORPHING Individual masterclass with any choice of the members of the quatour €40,00.(April 6th/7th/ 9th 2015). Non-competitors for the COMPETITION: - 4-pack Masterclasses with each one of the Jury* members: €200,00 (April 6th/ 7th 2015).

- A Masterclass to choose among the members of the Jury: €85,00 (April 9th 2015).

- QUATUOR MORPHING Masterclass: €120,00 for quartet, that is €30,00 per person (April 6th/7th/ 9th 2015).

- QUATUOR MORPHING Individual Masterclass Pack: One class with each on of the members of the quartet €160,00 April 6th/7th/ 9th 2015).

- Quatour Morphing. Individual masterclass with any choice of the members of the quatour €50,00 (April 6th/7th/ 9th 2015). Registration fees payment must be made through the ANDORRA SAX FEST official website (www.andorrasaxfest.com)

 

TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATION ARRANGEMENTS

Competitors are responsible for their own as well as their accompanists’ travel and accommodation expenses. The Competition Committee, however, will provide a list of hotels. 

 

PUBLICITY RIGHTS AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY 

By submitting the registration form, the competitor consents to the organiser using their name, biographical details and likeness in connection with the competition. The ANDORRA SAXFEST, as organiser of the competition, is the exclusives owner of all intellectual property resulting from and related to the Competition. This includes but is not limited to all rights to any recordings, photography, videography and/or broadcasts/transmissions (live, delayed or future), in all current and/or future formats, nationally and internationally, of all competition rounds and performances. The competitors have no claim to compensation. Performances of both eliminatory and final rounds will be streamed on the official homepage http://www.andorrasaxfest.com

 

LIABILITY

The Competition Committee will not be liable to any accident involving the competitor arising out of the participation in the competition, neither to any losses or material damage to a competitor's instrument and/or personal belongings. Travel and medical insurances are recommended.

 

FURTHER CONSIDERATIONS

The decision of the Competition Committee in all questions not provided for by these regulations shall be final. In case of appeal, all written communication must be in Catalan/ English/ Spanish/ French. The laws applicable to the competition and all contractual and other rights arising from it shall be the law of Andorra.
